The first time you do something even if you have great talent you are likely to make mistakes. Better to make mistakes with someone else’s money. If you want to start X company then I would work for a similar company and learn as much as I can before launching X business. This way you can see what works and what didn’t then when you start your business you will be in a better position to succeed. A mentor would be helpful too if you have one. If you are buying a business think about having the owner stick around in some capacity where she has an incentive to help you grow your business. If starting out, working with successful people will be helpful. You can also surround yourself with smart people.
