If you are selliing a product or service to others for profit you are a business. It doesn’t matter if you sell a few items or provide a fee services. There are different entities as well. If you sell under your personal name you will pay taxes under your name. If you have a business name you need to obtain a fictitious business name such as Jackies Art. It doesn’t matter if the money is earned in a foreign country you still will owe taxes as it’s income from whatever source derived including illegal products or services. We are based in USA and are answering based on US tax Code. Canada most likely has similar provisions. When operating from home you need to check the zoning laws where you live. Being a minor means you are unable to enter into contracts but bring in business requires taxes. You mentioned an Alberta exemption. I would contact an accountant in Canada to confirm that the same laws as US apply. You have a great opportunity to be in business and there are requirements.

You must be paid for working. When reading the details it appears you are paid but have more responsibilities at the same pay level. You stated you are receiving less per hour so it appears you are an hourly employee. Many Manager positions are salary Exempt versus hourly non exempt. Exempt applies to overtime bu not exclusively. If you are hourly and working more hours then to the extent you exceed the weekly hour calculation or daily hour maximum you will be entitled to overtime as a non-exempt employee. This is a personal question in the sense you have to make a decision. One option is to approach your supervisor and request a raise for additional work. It would be helpful if we knew how many hours you work per day and per week as well as your responsibilities whether they include supervision etc. To the extent you were not paid properly the Labor Board or any attorney is an option. You are entitled to back pay if you were not properly paid but we don’t have any information on your pay. More information in reply will help us provide even a better answer.

For those curious bubble tea was created in Taiwan in the 1980’s and is tea mixed with fruit or milk, mostly as a cold drink. With any product you can make a profit. The key is where will you sell the product, what method will you use to sell the product, the cost to make the product, in this case is it perishable, how will you market the product. Profit is just being able to sell the product above the cost which includes the ingredients and every other item from marketing, finance etc. If the product is unknown then giving away 1 ounce samples may be a method to introduce your product.

The short answer is if you are selling to an end user then you will be responsible for collecting and paying the tax to the taxing board in your State if you have a physical prensence in the state. Their are a few exceptions like New Hampshire which has no sale tax currently. If you are located in CA and selling Amazon Cloud Services to someone in CA and billing that end user you must collect and pay those taxes. It’s murkeeir when you do not have a phycsical presnnce in the State where you are selling the product or service to the end user. Look specifically to whom is billing the end user. If you have no presence in the State the end user is supposed to pay a use tax to the goverment taxing authroity in that State. Very few people are aware of use taxes and even fewer follow through unless the State taxing authority contacts them. Be careful that you are referring to a reseller program whereby you buy the product and resell to an enduser and not an affiliate program. In an affiliate program the entity such as Amazon sells the product to the end user and pays you a commission for bringing that sale to Amazon. There are programs called reseller but they are really affiliate programs. Look to the end user. If you are a middle man or not selling to the ned user you should obtain a resale exemption in your State from the taxing authority. Remember that sales taxes can be from the State, county or city. Thus each may have a sales tax requirement.

When dicussing “standard rate” in the merchant account industry there really is no such thing as a standard rate. Rates are determined by a number of factors. The type of card accepted whether its VISA, Mastercard, Discover or American Express will effect the rate that you as a merchant pay to accept that card. Someone pays for the rewards. When you have miles or dividend cards the merchant will pay a higher rate for accepting that credit card. In General American Express cards are typically higher then a card like VISA or Mastercard. The type of business you have will also effect your rate. If you are in a business where their is a high rate of chargebacks then your rate will be higher as well. A multilevel business, gambling, pornography will all have higher rates then selling netflix movies or books from barnes and noble. Paypal and Square are newer players that do have standard rates which are between 2.75 to 3%. These are standard rates and typically you will pay more for American Express and less then a Mastercard without any rewards.
